We are an independent, voluntary group based in the Stroud area specialising in undertaking wildlife surveys and monitoring of the local area.

We work closely with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and other organisations to support their monitoring and conservation work in the county, but our purpose and goals and set and led by the interests of group members.

Our activities

We run indoor sessions and field meetings as well as specific surveys.  All group events and survey opportunities will be advertised by email and all members are welcome to attend, whatever their level of experience or expertise.  Download our 2024 programme below:

Please note that the Dawn chorus walk on Sun 5 May will start at 6am at Ebworth, not 5am as stated in the programme.

To get involved with any of the current surveys, please respond to the email to receive more information. Events will also normally appear on our Facebook page.  We are always thinking about new project ideas and welcome all member suggestions, particularly at our AGM, when we are always glad to chat with members.

How to join

SWSG is free to join.  You can fill in the form below to tell us a bit about yourself, what you would like to be involved with and how you would like to be contacted. We will then add you to our mailing list and tell you more about our activities
